AI Policy
September 2026.
Please note: when I reference AI, I'm talking about generative AI.
The world is changing fast and, despite the stack of environmental and ethical concerns piling up, AI isn’t going away.
When used with discernment, I accept it can be a useful tool for things like brainstorming and organising of ideas, advising on punctuation and grammar, and flagging potential inconsistencies in style, but I choose not to work on books where the content has been generated with AI.
It is important to me that I enjoy and am inspired by my work, and that can only be done by collaborating with those who appreciate writing for the potent and beautiful art form that it is and accept that it takes time and effort to craft their message.
AI cannot create – it can only copy. As such, I believe the genuine, real, human voice (even if it is not always perfect) is more important than ever, and I’m here for those who feel the same.
I can never compete with AI in terms of speed or price. But what you will get is a real and emotionally intelligent human being who wants you to succeed, makes the effort to understand your style and motivation, and offers you honest and nuanced feedback and suggestions – all based on decades of communication expertise, solid knowledge of the publishing process and a balanced sense of how your writing will land.
I also discuss AI in my FAQs page.
